루씨초는 음악을 전공한 배경을 바탕으로, 소리를 중심에 둔 시각예술 작업을 전개하고 있다.
그의 작업은 충동성과 회피성이라는 상반된 기질에서 출발하며, 이 두 성향이 부딪히는 지점에서 생겨나는 경계와 공생의 감각을 탐구한다. 소리와 영상, 설치를 넘나들며 서로 다른 감각이 만나는 순간을 시각화하고, 그 과정에서 보이지 않는 막(膜)을 단절이 아닌 감응의 통로로 제시한다.

최근에는 콤부차 스코비(효모와 박테리아의 공생체)를 주요 재료로 사용해, 발효의 시간성과 생명성을 예술적 구조로 확장하는 작업을 이어가고 있다. 스코비의 성장과 변화는 작가에게 내면의 감정과 신체의 리듬을 비추는 거울로 작용하며, 이를 통해 예술을 살아 있는 과정으로 인식하게 된다.

루씨초의 작업은 개인의 심리적 서사에서 출발하지만, 궁극적으로는 서로 다른 존재와 감각이 공존하는 생태적 구조를 제시한다. 그는 예술이 완결된 결과물이 아닌, 시간 속에서 발효되고 변화하는 유기적 과정임을 탐구하며, 감각과 재료, 기억과 생명이 교차하는 지점을 예술의 언어로 확장하고자 한다.

향후에는 사운드·바이오 소재·공간 설치를 결합한 연구를 지속하며, 감각과 생명이 공존하는 예술적 생태를 확장해 나갈 계획이다.

Lucy Cho develops visual art practices rooted in her background in music, placing sound at the center of her work. Her practice begins from two contrasting temperaments — impulsiveness and avoidance — and explores the sense of boundary and coexistence that emerges where these opposing tendencies collide. Moving fluidly between sound, video, and installation, she visualizes the moments where different senses meet, presenting the invisible membrane not as a site of separation, but as a conduit of resonance.

Recently, Cho has been working with kombucha SCOBY (a Symbiotic Culture Of Bacteria and Yeast) as a primary material, extending the temporality and vitality of fermentation into an artistic structure. The SCOBY’s growth and transformation act as a mirror reflecting the artist’s inner emotions and bodily rhythms, allowing her to perceive art as a living, evolving process.

While Cho’s work originates from personal psychological narratives, it ultimately proposes an ecological structure in which diverse beings and sensations coexist. She explores art not as a completed object, but as an organic process that ferments and transforms over time—expanding the language of art to the intersections of sensation, material, memory, and life.

In the future, she plans to continue her research combining sound, bio-materials, and spatial installation, further developing an artistic ecology where sensory and living systems coexist.
